Complete these steps to start building your solutions.

## Explore API documentation.

Once logged in, you can access API product documentation from the individual API product pages. You’ll find each product has a developer guide and specifications with details to help you build your solution. Use these documents to find the following details:

* Webhook subscriptions
* API call resources and parameters
* Sample request and response
* Environment URLs
* Error messages

Additional documentation may include case studies and API user guides.

## Access your account information.

1. Select your name from the navigation bar, and then select [Account Profile](/profile). 
2. View your account details such as first and last name, username and email on the [Account Profile](/profile) page. You can update your first or last name at any time. If you need to edit your username or email address, please [contact us](/contact). If you’re associated with a verified organization, organization details are also displayed.  If you need to edit your organization details, please [contact us.](/contact)

## Initiate onboarding and API management tools in My dashboard.

The My dashboard page allows you to complete the following tasks.
* Initiate your organization's verification process. 
* Track the status of verification until completion. 
* Submit a request to get testing and production access for each API you want to implement.

### Organization verification

You organization must be verified before you can begin implementing our APIs. 

1. Go to My dashboard.
2. Choose **Verify organization** to begin the verification process. You will receive an email from our API onboarding team with your next steps.
3. Complete your portal access request form and return it to API onboarding so we can verify your organization. Find the form in your email inbox and follow the instructions. Contact us if you need another form.
4. Once your organization is verified, you can submit a request for testing and production access.

**Note:** We recommend you use an email with your organization. For example, (```your.name@your-organization.com```). Using a personal email address will limit your access to APIs and Developer Portal features.

### API onboarding requests

#### Create a new request
Verified organizations can now submit an API onboarding request for testing and production access and track the status of the request in the My API onboarding requests section of My dashboard. 

1. Choose **Create** from your My API onboarding requests section on My dashboard.
2. Choose **API onboarding** support from the Issue type section of the Support tickets page.
3. Choose **Onboard new API** from the What kind of onboarding support do you need? Section.
4. Choose the product name.
5. Choose an environment.
6. Answer the questions in the Request details section.
7. Choose **Submit**.

#### View onboarding request details
View API Onboarding request details and required tasks needed before implementation.
1. Choose **View**.
2. View the API onboarding required tasks and corresponding statuses.

#### mTLS certificate
Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS), or two-way authentication, is a process that requires you and U.S. Bank to exchange digital certificates from a mutually trusted certificate authority (CA) to authenticate each identity to the other. Both you and U.S. Bank must be registered with a CA and configured locally as a trusted party.

This security measure reduces the risk of unauthorized use of credentials by a threat actor and various identity- spoofing schemes.

##### Upload certificate file
You must upload your organization's mTLS certificate for us to review. 
1.	Choose **View** for the appropriate API onboarding case on the My Dashboard page.
2.	Choose **Upload mTLS certificate** from the Provide your organization's mTLS certificate task on the API onboarding details page. You'll be asked to verify your identity.
3.	Choose **Continue** to verify your identity.
4.	Enter the 6-digit code from your email and choose Continue.
5.	Browse and select 1 document to be uploaded. The maximum file size is 5MB. The accepted file formats include cer, .txt, .crt, .zip, .pem or .der.

**Note:** Only one file can be uploaded. Although, you can replace a file that you've selected before uploading. 
Additionally, .p7b and .p7c are acceptable file types, but they must be uploaded as part of a .zip file.

6.	Choose **Upload**. Once your certificate file is uploaded, we will validate the file. It may take up 24 hours for the review to be completed.

##### Download and confirm certificate install
You must confirm your organization installed our mTLS certificate.
1.	Install our certificate in your environment. The certificate was sent in an email to your main contact.
2.	Choose **View** for the appropriate API onboarding case on the My Dashboard page.
3.	Choose **Confirm installation** from the Install and confirm the U.S. Bank mTLS certificate step on the API onboarding details page. 
4.	Choose the type of certificate that was installed. The options include Root certificate or Full chain certificate.
5.	Chose **Confirm**. 

##### mTLS status
**Awaiting user information.** There was an issue with the file. Go to your support ticket and select the Communication tab to connect with our onboarding support team to determine if a new file should be uploaded.
**Complete.** The mTLS certificate was successfully uploaded.
**Under review.** We are reviewing the file. It may take up to 24 hours to complete.

### Metrics

#### API status
View the status of an API to quickly determine if the API is operational, has degraded service or if there is an outage.

#### API usage
View the successful responses, error responses and the total requests for a date range. The following qualifications apply to the data provided.
* Response and request totals are not in real time. 
* Data returned doesn’t include today’s data. 
* Oauth requests are not included.
* All metrics for the production environment start on 1/1/2023.

Metrics are currently available for the ACH Originations, Account Validation and Payee Token+ APIs.

### Webhooks
Webhooks are asynchronous messages sent from the API to the calling application to notify when the status of an event has been updated. 

* View the webhooks available to your organization for the APIs you have implemented.
* Submit a request to subscribe to the webhook events available.

## Manage users in your organization.

The User Management feature on the [Account Profile](/profile) page allows your organization to manage who will be the main contact for your organization for activities that may include API key distribution and the exchange of certificates required for Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS).

The Developer Portal has three types of users that your organization’s main contact can manage.

### Main contact
This person is our primary point of contact during the onboarding process and may be contacted regarding:

* API key distribution
* Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) certificate exchange
* Satisfaction surveys

The main contact is also the primary administrator for your organization’s Developer Portal users. This person can do any of the following:

* Add a new user to your organization.
* Assign a self-registered user with the same email domain to your organization.
* Request our support team to delete a user from your organization.
* Reassign your organization’s main contact.
* Update a user's first and last name.

The main contact receives Developer Portal communications associated with your organization and has access to self-service Developer Portal tools.

### Organization users

These are the users that are assigned to your organization. Organization users can open a support ticket and access self-service Developer Portal tools. To help you provide the best customer experience, our API Communications team will send your organization users emails about events that may impact your API services, such as:

* Maintenance events that may require your action.
* Planned or unplanned outages that may disrupt services.
* New API versions or features on the Developer Portal.

### Self-registered users

These users have created an account on the Developer Portal and entered an email domain that matches the domain of your organization’s main contact.

## Evaluate an API in our sandbox.

Our [sandbox](/sandbox-quick-start) environment accepts JSON-encoded request bodies and returns simulated JSON-encoded responses. The sandbox environment uses **Basic OAuth** authentication with an **API key** and a **secret**.

## Create and manage sandbox projects from the Credentials page.

Select your name from the navigation bar, and then choose [Credentials](/credentials). From there you can create a new sandbox project and manage existing projects. 

### Create a new project.

Choose the Create new project button to select an API for your project. Once created, you can add more API products from their product pages. Some products require prior approval for the sandbox environment.     

Note: Project Name, Product and URL are required to create a new project. The URL should contain the name of your company and the purpose of the page, such as mycompany/mortgages.com.

### Manage existing projects.

View, delete or promote your sandbox projects using the links under the Actions row in your Projects table.

* View sandbox project information, retrieve and reset keys and more by selecting the View link.
* Go to [Support tickets](/support) and select inquiry/Integration help to request a Postman script collection.  
* Permanently delete a project when you click Delete.
* Request access to promote your work to a higher test environment when you select Promote. 

## Complete the testing prerequisites.
When you’re ready to test and integrate your project, our API Onboarding team can help you get access to our APIs in a higher test environment. Before we move your solution to a higher environment you’ll need to complete the following steps:

1.	[Verify](/dashboard) your organization to get started with an API product.
2.	Submit an [API onboarding support ticket](/support) to request API keys to our testing environment.  
3.	Work with your relationship manager and sales team to complete any contractual agreements and product setup, if necessary.
4. Complete the Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) certification requirements found in the API’s security guide.
5. Work with the API Onboarding team for API setup.

The API Onboarding team will communicate with you with regarding details on how to complete these steps.

## Test in a higher environment.
During testing our API Integration team can help answer questions or resolve integration issues. We’re available for:

* Technical working sessions
* Testing assistance
* mTLS certification assistance
* Sample Postman collections      
* Webhook configuration assistance
* Performance testing

## Launch to production.

When testing is complete, the API Onboarding team can help move your solution to a production environment. You’ll receive the following details:

* Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) certificate 
* Production keys
* Endpoints and other applicable information for your API

We recommend testing your API solution in production prior to going live. Our API Integration team can help answer questions or resolve integration issues as you complete your production migration.

Our support teams are available to assist you with any questions or issues you may have. Create a [support ticket](/support) if you have a general question, are experiencing issues or to request a postman collection of pre-formatted requests for API endpoints. 

1. [Log in](/login) to your account.
2. Select Support tickets from the Support menu or by selecting your name.
3. Select the Create new ticket button to create a new ticket.

The information required to submit a support ticket varies slightly depending on which of the three issue types you select. When creating a support ticket, be sure to select the Support ticket issue type that corresponds to your issue. Only fields marked as Optional are not required.
